HOPKINSVILLE, Kent.—Columbia 300 staffer Chris Barnes claimed his 10th career Denny’s PBA Tour title at the Don Johnson Buckeye State Open on March 2, 2008. A 209-197 win over Ken Simard earned Barnes his second title for the season as well as a four-point lead in the race for the PBA Player of the Year award.
“Chris’ understanding of PBA oil patterns as well as his ability to manipulate them to work to his advantage is astounding,” said Chad Murphy, Columbia 300 brand manager. “By taking risks on the lanes and knowing his competition, Chris continues to be a formidable opponent on Tour.”
Using Columbia’s Momentum ball, Barnes approached each lane differently by playing the deep inside part of the left lane and straight on the right lane. Going into the tenth frame, Simard was unable to obtain the three strikes needed to claim victory, enabling Barnes to take home the title, $25,000 and a four- point lead in the race to become the PBA Player of the Year. This win also holds significant meaning for Barnes, as it was named after PBA Hall of Fame member Don Johnson, a former Columbia 300 staffer.
