CHRIS BARNES LEADS SQUAD 12 TO MOVE INTO 12TH PLACE AT COLUMBIA 300 VIENNA OPEN

Chris Barnes, United States, set the tone in the 12th of 17 qualifying squads at the 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open Friday afternoon at Plus Bowling in Vienna.

The 13-time PBA champion, who won the gold medal at the World Singles Championships on Cyprus last month, toppled 1381 pins improving his previous high series by 24 pins en route to leap six spots into 12th place in the overall qualifying standings.

Barnes had games of 237, 226, 214, 214, 265 and 225. Stuart Williams of England leads the field of 283 players from 26 countries with 1544 and an average of 257.33. Patrick Bohm of Sweden leaped into 16th place behind a 1362 series. Anders Lousdal of Denmark was next with 1356, good for 20th place.

Marek Talpa, Czech Republic, had a high game of 263 and a low game of 145 in his 1331 series to overtake 27th place. Another four players, Olli Pakonen, Finland (32nd; 1320), Lynda Barnes, United States (33rd; 1319) Daniel Fransson, Sweden (37th; 1315) and Rene Landl, Austria (43rd; 1309), cracked the 1300-bar but are still in danger to miss the cut.

Bohm & Fransson were the best in Doubles in thies squad with 2677, an average of 223.08, good for 8th place of 275 doubles so far. Stuart Williams & Dennis Eklund of Sweden held on to the lead in Doubles with 2790 and an average of 232.50. Jo Allsebrook of England holds the 52nd and last place to advance with 1288 or an average of 214.67 including handicap. Qualifying continues on Friday with 13 scheduled for 9 p.m. CEST.
