Chris Barnes Wins in El Paso at Bayer Classic

HOPKINSVILLE, Kent. – Veteran PBA player and Columbia 300 staffer, Chris Barnes, took home the Bayer Classic Feb. 10, bringing him to the front of the PBA Player of the Year race with his ninth overall career title. Barnes defeated Ebonite staff player, Tommy Jones, 241-158.
“Chris has yet again proved why he’s the greatest player on the Tour today,” said Chad Murphy, Columbia 300 brand manager. “His vision in choosing where to play the lanes combined with is power and touch is absolutely amazing. The pattern he won on this week is designed to be played inside and he took our strongest ball, the Resurgence, and made the lanes look easy from out.”
Barnes, a Double Oak, Texas resident, defeated Mika Koivuniemi, 240-198, in the semifinal match before facing off against Jones in the televised finals where he struck in the seventh, eighth and ninth frames to seal the win. With this victory, Barnes took a four point lead over Walter Ray Williams, Jr. in the Player of the Year race and earned $25,000 plus an exemption for the 08-09 season.
