Columbia 300 staffer Clara Juliana Guerrero of Colombia finished her six-game series Wednesday evening at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria, with a four-bagger en route to win Squad 5 with 1346 total including 48 pins handicap.
The two-time gold medalist (All Events and Masters) at the 2009 Women’s World Championships became the first woman to win a squad in the 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open. Guerrero sandwiched games of 225, 229, 233 and 225 around two 190s to beat out Riku Petteri Kivelae of Finland for the top spot by 19 pins.
Guerrero, who moved into third place, is automatically qualified for Sunday’s finals. If Guerrero qualifies in the top 52, Kivelae, who sits in fourth place overall with 1327, will get the automatic berth, and so on.
Dan MacLelland of Canada, who toppled 1320 pins in Squad 5, remained in the lead with his 1400 series from Squad 4 and was followed by Kelly Kulick, United States, who held on to second place with 1358. Nine of the 27 women in the 147-player field from twenty countries are above the cut line.
The next three places belonged to Austrian bowlers. Squad 1 leader, Leo Grundschober fell to fifth place with 1316 followed by Alexander Rauscher in sixth place with 1312 and Daniel Hahn in seventh place with 1310.
Reigning PBA Player of the Year, Sean Rash (left), United States, totaled 1289 to leap into eighth place overall. The top 8 at the end of the qualifying will receive a first-round bye. Finn Perttu Jussila was close behind Rash with 1283, good for ninth place.
Rounding out the top 10 was Jens Grieger of Germany with 1279. PBA champion Scott Norton holds the 52nd and last place to advance with 1137 or an average of 189.50.
The lead in Doubles changed again as Guerrero & MacLelland joined forces in Squad 5 to overtake the lead with 2666 and an average of 218.17. The Canadian is also in second place with partner Thomas Gross of Austria with 2547. Third place belonged to Kulick & Rash with 2539.
