COLUMBIA 300 FULL SWING CARRIES MIKE SCROGGINS TO PBA ETONIC DON JOHNSON ELIMINATOR TITLE

Fresh off his runner-up finish in the PBA U.S. Open, Mike Scroggins stuck with his Columbia 300 Full Swing to win the Etonic Don Johnson Eliminator in Columbus, Ohio Sunday and move into serious contention for PBA Player of the Year honors.

Scroggins used his Columbia 300 Full Swing finished with 360 grit abralon followed a light 500 pad over the top to defeat Brian Kretzer, 206-195, to win his second title of the season and eighth of his career.  The Full Swing, along with a tip from Columbia 300 tour rep Del Ballard Jr., was all he needed.
“Del helped me get my swing straightened out in Denver (during the Bayer Don and Paula Carter Mixed Doubles) and man, I have really bowled well since then.

“I used the Total Bedlam most of the week here in Columbus, where we bowled on the Chameleon pattern. This was a week where the big crankers and guys who throw the ball hard did well. I’m certainly no cranker and I don’t throw the ball all that hard, but the Total Bedlam gave me great carry because it keeps the pins low.

“On the TV show, the Full Swing gave me the extra hook I needed. The straighter I play, the better off I am. In practice, I played way out to burn a spot for myself because I was the only lefty on the show, and then I just moved in. The ball did the rest of the work.”

He escaped a self-inflicted error when he missed a 7 pin spare conversion in the 10th frame of the championship match, but Kretzer wasn’t able to capitalize.
“Oh, well, an ugly win is still a win.”

“It’s been absolutely awesome having Mike join our team this year winning twice with the Columbia 300 brand.” Columbia 300 Brand Manager stated.  “Mike was with us as a regional staffer for a number of years and it’s nice to have him back home.”

With his second win of the year, Scroggins has solidified his position in the PBA Player of the Year race heading into the final three events of the season. Bill O’Neill leads with 56 points, Walter Ray Williams Jr. is second with 52 and Scroggins is third with 48.

In each of the three remaining events, the winner will earn 16 points, second place 8, third place 4, fourth place 2 and fifth place 1 point.
