COLUMBIA 300 MAD SUCCESS AT PABCON IN PUERTO RICO

SAN JUAN, P.R. - Chris Barnes capped off a successful week with Team USA by winning his fourth gold medal in Masters match play Saturday night at the 2009 Pan American Bowling Confederation Championships.
Barnes’ title helped the men’s team sweep all six gold medals - singles, doubles, trios, team, all-events and Masters. He defeated Ernesto Franco of Mexico, 2-1, in front of a full house of spectators at Carolina Bowling Center.
Barnes took Game 1 246-203, dropped the second game 233-208 and then won the deciding match 218-188 in a game where Franco never put any pressure on him.
“This was a week where I really just rode my teammates to gold medals,” Barnes said. “I was just kind of in the background all week but it feels good to help us come through and complete the sweep.”
The Masters match play competition featured the top 16 men and top 16 women from the all-events standings after 24 games of competition. All 12 Team USA members advanced to the Masters, but Barnes and Kim Terrell-Kearney on the women’s side were the only ones to earn medals.
Barnes also earned a Gold medal with his teammates in the Doubles, the Trios and also Team Event before finishing the week with a win in the Masters.
Columbia 300 was highly successful overall in Puerto Rico. Chris won four Gold Medals while wife Lynda came home with two, leading Team USA in the team event and also winning Gold in the Trios Event. Also capping a great summer was Team Colombia’s Clara Guerrero, who earned a Silver Medal in the All Events competition.
“What a week for our Team! Not only did Team USA have a great week, but Team Columbia 300 was awesome as well, bringing home 6 Gold and one Silver Medal,” stated Columbia 300 Brand Manager Chad Murphy. “It’s been a great summer. Everyone has been bowling well with the new products, including the Full Swing and Power Swing, so we couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season!”
