COLUMBIA 300 PREPARES FOR GREAT SEASON WITH GREAT PRODUCTS

Columbia 300 bowling balls are on a roll. In the 2009-10 PBA season, Columbia 300 balls were featured on 22 shows and earned over 5 titles. The PBA World Championship was even won with a Columbia 300 ball!

That’s not the end of the story. Columbia 300 recently introduced its three latest high performance balls, the Pure Physics, Complete Bedlam, and Burst, and they are sure to see some action on the lanes this season.
Columbia 300 PBA member Chris Barnes is looking forward to using the new products on a variety of lane conditions.

The high performance Pure Physics is will be ideal for higher volume PBA oil patterns like the Scorpion. In addition, it will work well for bowlers on typical league patterns that have heavier concentrations of oil. The Pure Physics was designed to fill an absence within the Columbia 300 high performance line, a ball to combat heavy oil conditions, and along with the Pure Swing and Full Swing, will provide a very aggressive arsenal for competitive bowlers.

The Pure Physics utilizes the Full Swing asymmetric core, giving the ball its shape on the lane. The coverstock is the Full Tilt 7.5, a very aggressive veneer.

But its surface roughness is the key to the Pure Physics’ success. Sanded with 500, 1000, and 2000 grit Abralon® pads, this ball has double the average roughness of any other ball in the Columbia 300 line. The combination of the cover and finish of the Pure Physics create its hook, a smooth arcing motion on the lane, with better pin carry.

“The Pure Physics is a beast!” said Barnes. “Hands down the best ball for heavy oil. I’ll definitely be using this ball on the fresh, and anytime there’s a good amount of head oil on the front part of the lane.”
The Complete Bedlam picks up where the new Pure Physics leaves off, by getting down the lane as the pattern breaks down.

The new Bedlam 2.0 core has a higher RG (radius of gyration) than previous Bedlams, 2.53, and a higher differential of .055. The Bedlam 2.0 core is then wrapped with a Full Tilt 5.0 veneer, known for its success on the Full Swing, but with a shinier finish. The surface of the Complete Bedlam is sanded with two hits of an 800 grit AbranetTM pad and two hits of a 1000 grit Abralon® pad. This makes the final surface between the Pure Swing and the Total Bedlam in roughness, but not as rough as the new Pure Physics.

With a little smoother ball motion than the Pure Swing, the Complete Bedlam is set to create a powerful skid/flip motion on the lanes. Bowlers can start with the Pure Physics in heavy oil, and when the lanes begin to break down, they can move to the Complete Bedlam with confidence that this ball wants to get down the lane and hook on the backends.

“The fact that this ball comes with the ‘tour finish’ will make this an easy one for us to use,” said Barnes. “We use this a lot on tour so that the polish gets the ball through the front of the lane, and the lines underneath give the traction in the mid-lane for control and to maximize room. This ball will be best on medium to medium dry conditions.”

In recent years, Columbia 300 returned to the market (after a short hiatus) with the Resurgence, a ball that earned bowlers’ respect in the Columbia 300 brand. The popularity of the Resurgence hasn’t waned, and as a result, Columbia 300 has introduced the Burst, a rebirth of the Resurgence core and cover.

The Resurgence core produces a roll that starts up pretty quickly on the lane, with a low RG (radius of gyration) and a low differential. The Resurgence core is then covered with the New Era veneer, polished to a 4000 grit Abralon® finish.

Designed for medium to dry lane conditions, the Burst provides a long and even arc to the pins.

Burst continues the progression of the Columbia 300 brand’s rebirth, as it demonstrates that the high performance ball of three years ago is now the mid-priced ball of the year. The Burst will fit well within the new product line, as the ball a bowler needs when the lanes begin to dry out more than the Complete Bedlam can handle.

“The Burst is the ball I’ve been hoping for,” explained Barnes. “I can see this ball as a benchmark in the line. I’ll probably have a few of them with different surfaces, because I can definitely use this ball on a variety of lane conditions. This is definitely the best ball at this price point, for those bowlers who own a Freeze and are ready to kick it up a notch.”

The extremely popular Columbia 300 Freeze line will have three new additions this season in bright new colors sure to pop on the lanes, a pink/black, red/orange, and blue/green. The vibrant colors add some further dimension to the Freeze line, without changing the successful ball motion that has made the Freezes famous.

A new color has been added to the White Dot line as well: a brilliant purple/silver sparkle that will be a hit with folks from 3 to 100.

The Pure Physics ball will be available on July 15, 2010, and the Complete Bedlam will be available June 24, 2010. The Burst, Freezes, and White Dot are available now. Visit your local bowling pro shop to find the Columbia 300 ball that best fits your game.
