COLUMBIA 300 STAYS STRONG IN WBT FINALS

November 30, 2012

The PBA and WTBA announced an alliance early this year, allowing players to earn PBA titles in WTBA events. Twelve tournaments around the world comprised the 2012 World Bowling Tour, and competing players were awarded points for each event they attended, based on their performance. The top three men and women competed today in the WTBA Bayer Advanced Aspirin World Bowling Tour Finals, and it was Columbia 300 equipment that made the day for both winners.

Missy Parkin, Lake Forest, Ca., was victorious on the women’s side, after defeating Liz Johnson 238-190 in the final match. Parkin is one of four women who competed in the PBA World Series of Bowling, but the competition was nothing new for her.

“It’s just you competing against the lanes, whether you’re a man or a woman,” said Parkin. “I’ve done that throughout my entire career, starting as a junior bowler. In collegiate competition, I actually bowled on the men’s team. I think that other women should also rise up to the challenge and start competing against the men.”

Parkin relied on a Columbia 300 Omen for her WBT Finals success.

Chris Barnes, Double Oak, Tx., recently completed a whirlwind world tour, competing in events in five countries prior to the World Series.

“I’m no stranger to overseas travel,” said Barnes. “The four weeks I spent on the road this fall, however, was the longest overseas trip I’ve ever taken. I’m glad to be back at home now for some much-needed family time.”

Barnes depended on his Columbia 300 Mass Eruption and Eruption to find success in the WBT Finals against Mika Koivuniemi,  244-228.

“Looking at my equipment for the World Series, I knew that the lanes at South Point are high friction, heavy lineage,” explained Barnes. “I wanted to use balls with cleaner coverstocks, and the cleanest cover of all was the blue Eruption I used so successfully at the Columbia 300 Vienna Open.”

“Barnes has worked hard all year to build up to this win,” said Columbia 300 Brand Manager Bugsy Kelly. “He’s done a fantastic job for us all over the world, and we’re proud to have him on our team. The WBT title is just icing on the cake for him, and puts him in a strong position for success in the rest of the World Series events.”
