Columbia 300 staff members Chris and Lynda Barnes will play host to The Strike Out Diabetes Trio on June 5th in suburban Dallas.
The Barneses have joined forces with the Southwest Premier Bowlers Tour (SWPBT) to help raise funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The Strike Out Diabetes Trio will take place at AMF Lewisville in Lewisville, Texas. This SWPBT event will be an open scratch event featuring some of the best regional and national bowlers.
The tournament will consist of six games of qualifying followed by a top six bracket final. The finals will be two-game baker matches, with the top two seeds from qualifying receiving a first round bye in the final. With a full field, first place will pay $4,500.
“The Southwest Premier Bowlers Tour has been very gracious with their donations,” said Lynda Barnes. “They are donating $45 of every team entry and $4 of every individual bracket to JDRF. The great thing is that this will not affect the prize fund, as it is SWPBT’s way of giving back.”
While the Strike Out Diabetes Trio is an open scratch trio event, each team is allowed only one current PBA Exempt member per team. Tournament organizers are expecting a great turnout and a great display of bowling.
“Our goal is for tournament to become an annual event that will attract some of the best bowlers in the region and beyond,” said Paul Henderson, SWPBT tournament director. “This event will raise money for a great cause and still have a lot of money for the bowlers to win.”
The Strike Out Diabetes Trio will be limited to 32 teams. All teams that reserve a spot in the tournament will have until May 1, 2011 to send in the FULL entry fee of $495. After May 1, entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We look forward to working in partnership with the Southwest Premier Bowlers Tour to provide a first-class tournament,” said Chris Barnes. “Even more important is our ability to generate funding and awareness for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.”
Chris, winner of the Professional Bowlers Association’s Triple Crown, and Lynda, a three-time U.S. Amateur champion, are active members of the JDRF community in Texas. Their son Troy is diabetic, and the couple has staged various events and fund-raisers in an effort to raise awareness and find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
“Columbia 300 is proud to have Chris and Lynda on our team, and we support their work to Strike Out Diabetes,” said Bugsy Kelly, Columbia 300 Brand Manager. “It’s obviously a worthy cause, and we understand the need to raise funds to improve the care and research for children with diabetes. I expect the bowling community will be behind them 100%.”
