Guerrero leading world championships

Columbia 300’s Clara Guerrero is currently leading the all-events category at the World Tenpin Bowling Association’s World Women’s Championships in Las Vegas.

After 15 games, Guerrero, has a slight lead in the all-events category over Denmark’s Rikke Rasmussen, 3312-3306. After 24 games, the top 16 players in the all-events standings will advance to Masters Competition, which is scheduled for Aug. 2.

Guerrero propelled her Team Colombia to a lead July 31 as she opened up the trios event with games of 257 and 276. The C300 bowler began to struggle as lane conditions changed, but was able to get back on course and finish her third set with six consecutive strikes earning her a 735 series and added to her Team Columbia’s 1,960 pins total — 18 pin ahead of Team USA’s Liz Johnson, Stephanie Nation and Carolyn Dorin-Ballard.

“We struggled a little bit on the fresh on the other pattern, but we’re going to learn from what happened yesterday and come out and make good shots,” Guerrero said. “If it’s meant to happen for us, it will.”

After representatives from 45 countries complete six qualifying games in trios, the top four teams will advance to the semifinals, which will be held Friday at 9:30 p.m. EDT.
