Klerk, of Chandler, Ariz., cut through three of bowling’s best to take home $6,330 during the tournament held Aug. 13-16.
Klerk’s first ousting was of 2006 champion and veteran Team USA member, David Haynes, of Las Vegas, who had bowled a perfect score earlier in the event. Klerk defeated Haynes 236-225.
Next Klerk trounced 202 ABC Masters champion Brett Wolfe, of Phoenix, in a run-away match 265-214. Wolfe, however, did take home $1,250 for his fourth place finish.
But Klerk wasn’t finished; he edged out Forth Worth, Texas’ 16-time regional champ Tyler Jensen, 237-268. His run to the semi-finals netted Jensen $1,500.
The final dance wasn’t quite as smooth for Klerk when he faced-off with top-seeded Josh Blanchard, of California.
A narrow miss by Blanchard give Klerk a chance to run away as he finished with five strikes to win the match, 258-235. Blanchard, who averaged 225.1 in 26 games, took home $3,390. Klerk averaged 217 during the 29-game event.
