MACPHERSON CONTINUES SUCCESS IN JAPAN

Columbia 300 staff member Wendy Macpherson continues her Outburst of success on the 2011 Japan Professional Bowlers Association Ladies Tour.

Macpherson, of Henderson, Nev., used the Columbia 300 Outburst to win a pair of titles on the JPBA Tour, her 9th and 10th respectively. It was also the first time she captured back-to-back events on the Japanese ladies circuit.

It was the Outburst that got Macpherson’s winning streak going at the JFE Cup Women’s Chiba Open.  Macpherson entered the tournament as the defending champion, and posted an 805 three-game series in games 4-6 of the round robin finals (279, 279, 247).

As the No. 1 seed for the four-player stepladder finals, Macpherson waited for No. 4 seed Hiromi Matsunaga to climb through the stepladder. Matsunaga, who came into the tournament as the frontrunner in the JPBA Player of the Year race, beat No. 3 seed, Amaymi Kondo, 216-185, and No. 2 seed, Masami Abe 205-196 for the right to face Macpherson.

Macpherson took advantage of a Matsunaga split (4-6-7-9) in the third frame by throwing three straight strikes to take a 30-plus pin after five frames. Matsunaga never got closer than 25 pins of Macpherson, and eventually fell 217-199. Along with defending her title, Macpherson received 1.2 million Yen (approximately $14,800 US).  Matsunaga, who hasn’t finished lower than second in the first three women’s tournaments this season, received 610.000 Yen ($7,570 US) for second .

“I’m overwhelmed,” Macpherson told a capacity crowd at host JFP River Lanes. “I think only one other time in my career I have defended a title. This is such a great honor and I couldn’t have done it without all the fans here.”

The Outburst continued to be the go-to ball for Macpherson at the Tour’s next stop, the BIGBOX Women’s Higashi-Yamato Cup. Macpherson entered the stepladder finals as the No. 2 seed, and defeated No. 3 seed, Aki Inoguchi 228-177, for the right to face top-seed Yuko Nakatani.

Macpherson took the early lead with a double in the third and fourth frames, while Nakatani was unable to double in the entire match. Macpherson wrapped up the title with three strikes in the 10th to win 217-199 over Nakatani, and take home the 1.2 million Yen check for the second straight tournament. Nakatani had to settle for second place worth 620.000 Yen (approx. $7,938 US).

The Columbia 300 Outburst has proven to be a strong mid-performance ball. The Outburst works well on medium to heavy oil conditions, and is a good first ball out of the bag for most bowlers. Its versatility and consistency makes it a favorite of both amateurs and touring professionals.
