Rick Miller, of Lincoln, Neb., won a cool $20,000 after rolling a 236 in the final shootout of the Columbia 300-sponsored 2010 Winter Mini-Eliminator using the brand’s Cool NoiZe.
Miller finished 20 pins ahead of senior bowler Sam Carter, of Ben Lomond, Calif., who took home $10,000; third place and $7,500 went to 205 and under champ Darnell Pearson, of Baltimore, who rolled a 193 with the Columbia 300 Full Swing.
Miller’s Mini-Eliminator win was as historic as the event’s turn out for its 23rd event at South Point. The day before, the 40-year-old southpaw won another of the megabucks tournaments collecting a $30,000 grand prize.
The event saw a major increase in entries this year with more than 450 bowlers from around the world competing for more than a $250,000 in cash and prizes. Of the 84 bowlers who advanced to the finals, 42 earned $1,000 or more.
Earlier in the week, Rick Moussouleas, of Allen Park, Mich., took the title of the Mini-Eliminator Early Bird Champion. Moussouleas, who bowls out of the 205 and under division, won $2,000 for his win.
The Early Bird paid out a total of $10,000 to 60 bowlers. Starting with a field of 340, the Early Bird is a three squad qualifying event. Each entrant bowled two games with the top series from each division advancing to the finals. The finalist from each division bowled separate single game shootouts with the top three advancing to the Finals Shoot Out. The six bowlers who did not advance received $250. Each division had daily cashes of at least $50.
“Columbia 300 is proud to sponsor amateur tournaments like the Mini,” said Columbia 300 Brand Manager Chad Murphy. “After all, this sport and its future depend on league bowlers and what better way to encourage them?”
