Ron Mohr is on a roll.
In the second tournament of his second Senior Professional Bowlers Association career, the Eagle River, Alaska man won his second consecutive senior tour title April 28. His first senior career win came last week during the Senior Jackson Open in Michigan.
This is the 11th time in PBA history that a bowler has won back-to-back titles, according to the PBA.
The Ebonite staff player defeated PBA Hall of Famer Brian Voss, of Alpharetta, Ga., by five pins, 211-206, during the championship round of the PBA Senior Dayton Open at Capri Lanes.
The four-time Team U.S.A. member, said that off-season training has helped him better focus on his game.
“I really worked hard in the off-season on focusing on what I needed to do to make adjustments in match play,” Mohr said. “Last year I was too slow in making adjustments …. In match play where there are fewer games and you’re eliminated if you don’t win, you have to make the right adjustments quickly and commit to them.”
Needing a spare in the 10th frame to seal the win, Mohr left the tricky 2-8 but converted the spare.
“That’s the second week in a row I didn’t throw the best shot on the first ball in the tenth frame of the championship match,” he said. “Sometimes it feels easier to have to double to win than to make a spare.”
Mohr currently leads the PBA in points and earnings, with 23,026.50 and $8,100, according to the PBA Web site, which was last updated April 24. The Daytona win netted Mohr an additional $8,000.
Mohr advanced to the championship match by defeating Ron Profitt of Brookville, Ohio, 205-172, in the semifinal.
The PBA Senior Tour’s next stop is the PBA Senior Mooresville Miller High Life Classic in Mooresville, N.C.
