Frank Testa Wins Columbia 300 Friday Night Eliminator

INDIANAPOLIS – The Morehead State Men and Robert Morris - Illinois Women captured the titles on Sunday at the 2011 Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic presented by Columbia 300.

On the men’s side, Morehead State qualified 5th out of a record 76 schools to make it to the match play round. After defeating Robert Morris - Pennsylvania and defending champion Webber International, Morehead State defeated Lindenwood 3 games to 1 to capture the $5,600 first place scholarship prize.

The Kegel All-Tournament Team included TJ Schmidt (Purdue), Marcus Berndt (Wichita State), Matt Mowad (Robert Morris – Pennsylvania), Mikey Hill (Robert Morris – Illinois), and Steven Zimmer (Morehead State). Schmidt also earned a $500.00 scholarship, courtesy of Backhaul Direct, by bowling the only 300 game recorded in the tournament. Overall, only 24 men averaged 200 or better during the tough 9 game qualifier.

On the women’s side, Robert Morris – Illinois qualified 6th out of a record 44 schools and proceeded to beat Lindenwood and Wichita State. In the championship round, Robert Morris – Illinois defeated two-time defending champion Central Florida 3 games 2 to take home the $3,400 first place scholarship prize.

Kegel All-Tournament Team members for the women included Jazreel Tan (Wichita State), Amanda Greene (Lindenwood), Jenn Boisselle (Central Florida), Linzey Roberts (Newman), and Jessica Baker (Wichita State). The tough lane conditions were also faced by the women as only four (4) emerged with a 200 average or better.

In addition to the Hoosier Classic, 200 bowlers invaded Western Bowl for the Columbia 300 Friday Night Eliminator. Frank Testa (Notre Dame – Ohio) took home the $600 top prize followed by Ethan Frank (North Dakota State), Bradley Miller (Lindenwood), and RJ Klann (Lindenwood). In the US Women’s Open Qualifier, Jenny Petzoldt from Lindenwood earned the spot into the field this summer.
