HOPKINSVILLE, Kent. – After joining the Columbia 300 staff less than one month ago, Sean Swanson won the 2008 PBA Lake County Indiana Regional Players Championship, the most sought after title on the regional circuit. On Monday. Swanson defeated Gregg Zicha, 247-154, to clinch his first career PBA Regional Tour Major title.
“Sean’s a talented player and he’s found a home here with us; his talents coupled with our products is obviously a perfect match,” said Chad Murphy, Columbia 300 brand manager. “His victory just adds to the great spring that Columbia 300 is having. Chris Barnes is PBA Player of the Year, Lynda Barnes wins two titles and now Sean Swanson wins the Regional Players Championship. It gives new meaning to our motto ‘Columbia Bowls the World Over!’”
Swanson, a Springfield, Mo. resident, defeated the No. 2 seed John Gould, 223-167, in the semifinals before winning the final match against Zicha, where he struck seven out of the first nine frames using the Momentum exclusively. Swanson also used the Wrath Dead Flush and Rival during the tournament.
This was the first Major title of Swanson’s professional career, but it was only his second tournament since joining the Columbia 300 team. He earned $9,000 for the win, as well as a spot in the 2008-09 PBA Tournament of Champions and a berth in the 2008 PBA Regional Players Invitational.
