Ed. Smaglik won the 2009 Mini-Eliminator, taking home $20,000.
Smaglik, of Flagstaff, Ariz., secured the win by doubling in the tenth to shoot 231. Finishing second, was Steve Brode, of Downey, Calif., shooting a 224; he took home $10,000. Senior Champion Dick Baker, of Henderson, Nev., rolling a 205 to earn $5,000.
“What a fabulous week we had at the Mini. Attendance was up in the tournament and it was wonderful to have so many consumers on hand to try out the new Columbia 300 gear on our demo lanes,” said Columbia 300 Brand Manager Chad Murphy. “I especially enjoyed the finish. It was absolutely awesome to see Ed finish off a great week. He struck out in the tenth of the last three matches to deservedly win this great event!”
Other champions in the four day event were Rick Hara and Bill Rowe each earning $1,000 for Early Bird Tournament wins.
More than 20 countries were represented with bowlers coming as far as Australia and South Africa to compete. A total of 89 bowlers advanced to the Mini-Eliminator finals earning a minimum of $500. More than 90 additional bowlers cashed in the prize fund which paid out over $100,000.
The Mini-Eliminator at South Point was presented by Columbia 300 and attracted almost 900 entries. The Mini had a 60 percent increase in bowlers from its last event and credited its new host, The South Point, for the increase.
