It may have been April 1, but Vincent Yoder was not fooling around during the 2009 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.
The 35-year-old Ohio man threw the 10th flawless game of this year’s open. Yoder took the lead in the singles division on games of 231, 300 and 279 for an 810 series, the second 800 series of the 2009 event.
Yoder, who made his ninth appearance at the Open Championships, has been a member of the Columbia 300 amateur staff for about four years.
Yoder switched to the Columbia 300 Momentum in the last phase of doubles and kept drive going throughout the tourney with it.
“I was using the Perfect Rival, but it was not turning on the backend,” he said. “The Momentum just gave me the look I wanted.”
Yoder started bowling when his father enrolled him in a junior league when Yoder was 7.
“I’ve been hooked since,” he said.
Although Yoder doesn’t really know what is in store next. He plans to go back to the open next year but the between is a mystery because of his youngest son’s baseball schedule.
“My oldest, who is 11, and my youngest bowl in junior league,” Yoder said. “This year the youngest has decided to take the year off and try is hand a baseball.”
For now, Yoder is back to running his bowling center and pro shop, Triway Lanes in Wooster, Ohio.
Yoder credits Columbia 300 with his success, he said.
“We are very proud of Vince,” Columbia 300 Brand Manager Chad Murphy said. “We don’t just claim to have a ball to fit every situation; we do have a ball to fit every situation.”
Columbia 300 is owned by Ebonite International, Inc. in Hopkinsville, Ky.
